Forest industry staying positive

A rare rainy weekend in a three-year drought and the resulting rush to do as much in the woods as possible during what is usually a slack period conspired against organizers of the 65th annual Forest Products and Construction Equipment Exposition held in Anderson on Feb. 6-8.
But that didn’t stop loggers, truckers, mill workers and mill owners, equipment suppliers, bankers and construction company executives gathered for the Sierra-Cascade Logging Conference’s biggest trade show from keeping a stiff upper lip and trying to mold their messages to stay positive.
During his invocation to 360 attendees at the Kickoff Breakfast held Thursday, Dee Sanders, general manager for Trinity River Lumber, said, “I can remember the drought of 1977. We made it through that. We can make it through this.”
